Moving from the Classic Editor to the Block-based Editor
💡 I'm moving from the Classic Editor to the Block-based Editor
Great! Using blocks, you'll have much more flexibility and the freedom to create your own bespoke layouts.
😕 But what happens to my old content?
It's safe and sound. You'll see it has been wrapped up in a single 'Classic Editor' block on each page.
✅ So what next?
Well, you can leave your old content housed in the Classic block as like as you like or until you're ready to make changes. You might choose to remove the old content entirely and start from scratch with some new blocks.
However, in most cases, you'll want to re-use your existing content but give it a spring clean and new formatting using the new editor.
There is an option to 'convert to blocks'. This will unwrap your existing contents into appropriate blocks such as headings, paragraphs and images. You can then edit them independently and move them around, all while adding brand new blocks of content wherever you like!
The 'convert to blocks' works really well in every situation we've tested. But for safety, we'd recommend duplicating your 'Classic Editor' block in the first instance and converting the copy into blocks. That way, if anything converts in a dissatisfactory way, you can easily re-instate the classic content.
😎 The possibilities seem endless! How do I get started?
