Articles on: Prospectus Configuration

Why doesn’t my saved Prospectus overview reflect recent changes?

If you’ve recently updated your Prospectus overview — perhaps by changing a page title, URL slug, content, or the layout configuration — and you don’t see those changes when revisiting a previously saved Prospectus, don’t worry. This behaviour is expected and by design.

Let’s look at why this happens, and what you can do to manage it.

📸 Saved Prospectuses store a “snapshot” of your overview

When a Prospectus is created and saved, the overview — that’s the section showing the cards, titles and links to your pages — stores a snapshot of what it looked like at that exact moment.

That snapshot includes things like:

  • The page titles and URLs (slugs)
  • The layout and ordering of the cards
  • The configuration of which pages appear in the overview

However, when a user clicks on one of those cards, they’re taken to the live version of the page — not a frozen or cached copy of it.

This means the overview you see in a saved Prospectus may show the old configuration or old titles, even though clicking through will open the most up-to-date live content.

🔄 What happens when you make updates

Different types of updates behave slightly differently:

  • Changing a page title:

Older saved Prospectuses will still show the previous title in their overview cards, but the page itself will display the new title.

  • Changing a page slug (URL):

Older saved Prospectuses keep the old URL and may show a broken link if that slug no longer exists.

  • Changing content:

The overview still shows the old title and layout, but users will see your newly updated content when they click through.

  • Changing the overview configuration or layout:

Existing saved Prospectuses will not automatically reflect those changes. New Prospectuses will pick up the updated layout.

Think of a saved Prospectus overview as a “snapshot of configuration” taken at the time it was created.

🧠 Why this behaviour exists

This approach keeps saved Prospectuses historically accurate. A Prospectus represents a specific version of your content and configuration at a particular time. That helps ensure users can always revisit what they originally selected — even if the site has evolved since.

However, it also means that when major changes are made to your content or layout, older Prospectuses won’t automatically stay in sync.

This behaviour avoids confusion that could arise if older Prospectuses suddenly showed new titles or layouts that no longer match what they were created to represent.

💡 Best practice when making big changes

If you’re making minor edits (like fixing typos or updating a paragraph), it’s fine to update the existing page.

But if your changes are more significant — such as:

  • Rewriting the content completely
  • Changing both the title and slug
  • Reconfiguring the overview or page layout

Then the best practice is to:

  1. Create a brand new page for the new version of the content.
  2. Update your overview configuration to link to that new page.
  3. Encourage users to generate a fresh Prospectus if they want the latest setup.

This keeps older Prospectuses accurate to what they originally showed, while ensuring new ones display your latest work exactly as intended.

🚀 In summary

  • Saved Prospectuses capture the overview configuration at the point of creation.
  • Clicking a card opens the live version of a page, not a cached one.
  • Updating content, titles, or layout doesn’t update existing saved Prospectuses.
  • For major changes, it’s best to create new pages and new Prospectuses.
