Moving your Courses from the Classic Editor to the Block-Based Editor

If you're moving your course content from the classic editor to the block-based editor, this guide will help you transition smoothly. Here’s what you need to know to ensure a successful migration.

📂 How Does Existing Content Integrate?

No Loss of Content: Your existing course content will remain intact. It’s displayed below the Gutenberg editor in the same fields as before.
Fallback System: If you do not add any new Gutenberg content, the system will display your existing content as a fallback.

⚠️ Important Behaviour to Note

Content Override: Once you make changes in the Gutenberg editor and click Update, the newly added content will replace the existing content on the front end.
Secure Storage: Don’t worry—your original content is securely stored in the back end and can be retrieved if needed.

Gutenberg content will take precedence over classic editor content on the front end once updated. Ensure your updates are complete before publishing.

1. Create and Test Drafts

Consider drafting and previewing your Gutenberg content on a separate page.
Once satisfied, copy and paste the finalised content into the intended course page.

Tip: This approach is perfect if you want to experiment without affecting live content immediately.

2. Edit Directly on Course Pages

For direct editing, ensure you carefully copy all critical content from the current fields into the Gutenberg editor.
This will ensure your users don’t miss any essential details during the transition.

It’s a good idea to double-check your live content after updating to confirm everything displays as intended.

With this guide, you’ll be ready to make the most of the block-based editor while preserving your existing course content. If you have any questions or encounter issues, our support team is here to help! Please get in touch: help@prospectus.plus
